Avigilon Launches First High Resolution High Definition Digital Surveillance System

Combining multi-megapixel cameras and lossless compression, Avigilon delivers high quality surveillance images needed to protect the public, airports, borders, critical assets and infrastructure

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – September 25, 2006 Avigilon, today launched the Avigilon High Definition Surveillance System at ASIS International 2006. Featuring high-sensitivity PoE IP cameras, ranging in resolution from VGA to 11 megapixels, and high definition DVRS and NVR software that capture and preserve surveillance evidence using lossless compression, the Avigilon High Definition Surveillance System has been designed end-to-end to ensure maximum imaging performance.

Conventional surveillance systems compromise image quality by using a combination of low resolution analog or IP cameras, which cannot capture detailed surveillance footage, and lossy compression for storage, which destroys important image information. A single weak link in a surveillance system irreparably reduces image quality and therefore the evidentiary value of the images it produces.

The leap in image quality that Avigilon delivers is achieved because, unlike conventional surveillance systems, each component of their system has been designed to preserve the high-quality footage captured by its multi-megapixel IP cameras.

“Sometimes you just can’t compromise. At Avigilon, we have carefully architected every component in our high definition surveillance system to deliver the kind of unmatched image quality that demanding security professionals can rely on,” said Alexander Fernandes, president and chief executive officer of Avigilon.

Avigilon’s high definition surveillance systems have been expressly designed to satisfy the demanding surveillance requirements that have emerged in recent years due to mounting global tensions and the resulting dramatic increase in security measures. Avigilon’s high definition surveillance system delivers the image quality necessary to protect the public and to secure airports, sea ports, borders and train stations. Other sectors that benefit from the superior high definition of Avigilon’s surveillance systems are the military, law enforcement, financial institutions, casinos, warehousing and transportation and critical infrastructure such as nuclear and petrochemical plants.

“To deliver the best evidence, a surveillance system must capture the highest quality images technically possible and record them exactly as they are captured,” said J.P. Forest, director of security solutions at Avigilon and an ASIS certified protection professional. “Unlike conventional surveillance systems, we have engineered the Avigilon High Definition Surveillance System to ensure that image quality and integrity is never compromised. The result is a breakthrough in surveillance performance.”

About the Avigilon High Definition Surveillance System
Avigilon’s surveillance system is comprised of the following four components:

Multi-Megapixel IP Cameras
From VGA to 11 megapixels, Avigilon cameras feature Gigabit Ethernet connectivity and progressive scan CCD sensors to deliver true 14-bit dynamic range. Extremely sensitive across the entire visible spectrum and into near infrared wavelengths, Avigilon surveillance cameras see well beyond human vision.

Gigabit Transmission
All Avigilon cameras transmit their images over Gigabit Ethernet. Gigabit Ethernet cameras can stream images 10 times faster than cameras that only support 100 megabit Ethernet. The high data rate provided by Gigabit Ethernet allows Avigilon cameras to deliver high-resolution images at high frame rates without lossy compression.

Lossless Recording
The use of lossy compression in conventional surveillance recorders introduces image artifacts and destroys potentially important evidence. Avigilon recorders use lossless compression to capture image data exactly as it is produced by the camera’s sensor, ensuring that all image evidence is preserved.

Enhanced Viewing
Avigilon’s high definition surveillance systems allow users to simultaneously view live and recorded multi-megapixel surveillance streams. Built-in image enhancement features reveal image details, in real-time, that are invisible to the human eye.

Avigilon at ASIS
Avigilon will offer the first public display of its high definition surveillance systems at ASIS 2006, September 25th to 28th in San Diego, CA at booth #349. Also on display will be surveillance footage which compares Avigilon’s High Definition Surveillance Systems and conventional surveillance systems.
